History

The Tivoli Theatre building was originally built as Adam Bakery in 191 and boasted some of the most delicious gourmets in Queensland. Following this, the Tivoli was used by the State Library of Queensland to store books but not long after, the building was transformed into the Tivoli Restaurant and Theatre which was inspired by the 1803 cabaret theatre Paradis Latin in Paris.

The venue made its grand opening in 1989 with Putting on the Ritz, which is a show that celebrates the Golden Age of Hollywood which featured hits from composers George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. When the Tivoli saw its anniversary in 2017, the Brisbane Festival partnered with the Tivoli. Today, the Tivoli welcomes a range of international and national artists from all over the world. The venue can also be used as a theatre showcasing a variety of performances.
