Following this, the Tivoli was used by the State Library of Queensland to store books but not long after, the building was transformed into the Tivoli Restaurant and Theatre which was inspired by the 1803 cabaret theatre Paradis Latin in Paris.
The venue made its grand opening in 1989 with Putting on the Ritz, which is a show that celebrates the Golden Age of Hollywood which featured hits from composers George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter.
