The American rock band AFI—short for A Fire Inside—  is a ormation with gothic aesthetic and artistry whose music combines introspective lyrics with music genres such as hardcore punk, post-hardcore, gothic rock and emo.

AFI has had a clear evolution from their hardcore punk style into a more poetic, melodic and alternative punk that blends different music styles. Their mainstream success came along their 2003 album Sing the Sorrow, including dark, poetic lyricism with soaring choruses.

With their further albums like  Decemberunderground (2006), AFI solidified their place in alternative rock history, captivating audiences worldwide. Their lyrics often delve into themes of existentialism, heartbreak, self-destruction, and gothic romanticism, which resonate with their punk-lover fanbase.

Overtime, AFI has showcased a continuous evolution within their melodies, lyrics, and music genre, although they have stayed true to their darkly captivating essence.
