Located in the heart of the Gold Coast, the HOTA Home of Arts is submerged in beautiful parklands and is breathtakingly beautiful. As a place of innovation and creativity, the HOTA precinct is integral to the City of Gold Coast Council’s Gold Coast Cultural Precinct masterplan. The HOTA includes a vast range of cultural venues and is particularly known for its cinema as well as other auditoriums such as the Outdoor Stage, the HOTA Gallery, Theatre 1, Theatre 2, the Panorama Room, the Lakeside Room, the Basement, St Margaret’s Chapel and the Adventure Trail.
It is known as an important venue for hosting a range of events such as art, theatre, dance, live music, opera, comedy from creatives around the world and Australia, making it a truly creative and multi-purpose venue. HOTA also boasts a state of the art, world-class gallery which was newly built with $60.5 million and it will be the largest gallery outside the capital city in Australia.
The HOTA cultural arts centre has a Theatre 1 theatre space which can seat 1,139 people in its auditorium.The Theatre 1 space is divided across two levels: the Balcony and the Stalls. This is a traditional theatre space which has hosted performances from some of the best Australian performers.
HOTA also includes a myriad of other performance spaces such as the Outdoor Stage, the Lakeside Room and the Panorama Room. There are also two cutting-edge cinema spaces which showcase a range of international and national films from different cinema genres.

HOTA is committed to making sure that the arts are accessible to everyone and the venue is committed to ensuring that everyone has a great time.
There is accessible parking available in the HOTA main car park.
There is a ramp which provides access to the theatre, at street level, the terrace and HOTA Cafe. You can then go indoors and use the lift which will take you to the main foyer, Box Office and Theatre 1.
Please notify the venue beforehand if you require any assistance and HOTA will make arrangements. All of the venues can be accessed by people who have mobility requirements and use a wheelchair.
However, please note that the balcony of Theatre 1 can not be accessed by those with mobility issues as it is an old building.
HOTA accepts companion cards, providing a second ticket for their companion at no cost.
Theatre 1 is equipped with Sennheiser Infra-Red Sound Reinforcement which can help people who have a hearing impairment. When you arrive, let HOTA know and it can have it ready for you to collect from the box office.
When HOTA officially opened in December 1986, it was known as the ‘Keith Hunt Community Entertainment and Arts Centre’ and for short it was nicknamed ‘the Centre’. Managed by the Gold Coast City Council, it then underwent a second name change and was called the ‘Gold Coast Arts Centre’ and it held this name until March 2010.
The Arts Cafe, a cinema and two function rooms were built and added to HOTA Centre in 2004 and in March 2010, the Gold Coast Arts Centre was renamed and rebranded, relaunching as the Arts Centre Gold Coast which was part of an ongoing change of strategic direction. A fresh brand took place in 2018, making it a more contemporary space. THe new HOTA Gallery is set to open in early 2021.
