History
When HOTA officially opened in December 1986, it was known as the ‘Keith Hunt Community Entertainment and Arts Centre’ and for short it was nicknamed ‘the Centre’. Managed by the Gold Coast City Council, it then underwent a second name change and was called the ‘Gold Coast Arts Centre’ and it held this name until March 2010.
The Arts Cafe, a cinema and two function rooms were built and added to HOTA Centre in 2004 and in March 2010, the Gold Coast Arts Centre was renamed and rebranded, relaunching as the Arts Centre Gold Coast which was part of an ongoing change of strategic direction. A fresh brand took place in 2018, making it a more contemporary space. THe new HOTA Gallery is set to open in early 2021.
