The Sydney Theatre Company is steeped in history, as it was first formed in December 1978 after the closure of the Old Tote Theatre Company the month before. It was set up by Hon. Neville Wran, who decided to set up a new theatre company, to perform in the Drama Theatre of the Sydney Opera House. Today, the Sydney Theatre Company is one of the leading theatre companies in Australia.
