The Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park offers a diverse selection of traditional exhibitions, shows and activities which allow you to enjoy an interactive experience whilst learning all about Aborginal culture, art and history.  

Buluru Storywaters Theatre

Be transported back over 60,000 years at the Aborginal Cultural Centre and learn all about the fascinating Dreamtime Creation Story of the Djabugay people in an enchanting 360 degree theatre. Watch the story unfold before you and get comfortable in the Bulurru Story Waters Theatre!

History and Heroes Journey

You can also discover a mesmerising exhibition of historic films telling the story of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their incredibly diverse history.

Bundarra Dingal (cassowrry egg) theatre

Explore how the medium of art depicts the rich and diverse indigineous culture throughout Australia. Featuring a spectacular, wall-sized painting which was once a stage curtain in Kuranda, the Bundarra Dingal is an opportunity to link art with aborignal culture.

Aboriginal Baynagga Oven

How to get there

Located in Cairns, Tjapukai Aboriginal Park is easily accessible by public transport and car.

How to get to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park

  • Car: if you are travelling by car, then the park is approximately 20 minutes by car from Cairns City, 12 minutes from Palms Cove and 45 minute from Port Douglas. 
  • Bus: if you are travelling by bus, you can take the 123 Translink Service from Cairns City Place Bus Stop and returns from the Tjapukai Bus Stop. 
  • Shuttle Transfers: there are plenty of shuttle bus services to transfer you to and from your Cairns and Northern Beaches Accommodation.

Good Fabulous and authentic cultural experience. I took my kids here so they learned about aboroginal culture and I think they learned loads. We particularly enjoyed the dancing!
