Other species include the Squirrel Glider, the Red-necked Wallaby, the Swamp Wallaby the Dingo and the Koala which you can not only pet but give a cuddle and take unforgettable pictures with!  

Birds  

Discover a colourful, chattering world of feathered friends at Moonlit Sanctuary, which offers a huge variety of Australian species! Of the 2000 species of birds in the world, Australia has 800 of them, including the tiniest bird in the world, the Hummingbird, and the largest bird in the world, the magnificent Ostrich.

Are you fascinated by cold-blooded creatures? Then visiting the Reptiles and Amphibians area is a must! Given that Australia is home to approximately 14% of the world’s reptile population, it is undoubtedly one of the country’s most important animal groups and Moonlit Sanctuary offers a huge variety including the Spotted Tree Monitor, Water Dragon, Eastern Long-neck Turtle and the Cunningham Skink!

How to get there

The Moonlit Sanctuary address is: 550 Tyabb-Tooradin Rd, Pearcedale.

The Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park is situated 50 minutes from Melbourne and is on the way to Phillip Island. You can get there by:

  • Car: you can access the park via the Monash Freeway (M1) and Westernport Highway (M780). Taking the SouthGippsland Highway, you can get to Philip Island in under than one hour. If you are travelling from the Great Ocean Road, then you can travel via the Mornington Peninunsula Freeway.  
  • Bus: you can take the 792 bus from Cranbourne station to Pearcedale which runs extremely regularly. If you are travelling from Frankston, you can take the 776 bus to Pearcedale. The sanctuary is a 30 minute walk from Pearcedale and it is a small village with no taxis.  
  • Taxi: you can hail a taxi from Frankston Railway Station, which will take about 20 minutes. However, there are no taxi ranks at Cranbourne Railway Station

Access

Moonlit Sanctuary is easily accessible, with ramps throughout the park and wide doors. There are also accessible car parking facilities.  

If you need to rent a wheelchair, they are available for loan free of charge. There are also accessible toilet facilities next to the visitor centre. 

Food and Drink

There are a range of places to eat and drink at the Moonlit Sanctuary. Enjoy a lovely meal at the Wetlands Cafe or you can grab a quick bite to eat at the Blue Gum Kiosk.

Excellent Absolutely fantastic. Anyone living near Melbourne should visit the sanctuary. We loved checking out the crocs, there is an impressive selection. Really admire the parks conservation efforts too.

Good Easy to get to from Melbourne if you fancy some real nature ! I loved all the cute little mammals, like the gliders.
